There is Room at This Inn for You
As our nights grew much colder - As our lights abandoned town
We saw Maria turned away - With Joseph and their unborn holy child
But the star held this moment - Selfied with this ancient land
We lit a candle for your way - This day, we are holding out our hands
I can see desperation in the depth of your smile
I can see that you are anxious for the child inside
I can see you’ve been turned away by many before
But there is room at this inn for you
You’ll find refuge in our country – You’ll find a place to raise your child
Even if you fly away again – Even if this is not your journey’s end
I can see desperation in the depth of your smile
I can see that you are anxious for the child inside
I can see you’ve been turned away by many before
But there is room at this inn for you
Some say you’re not our neighbour – some say you don’t belong
But you are just like me, just like all of us
I can see desperation in the depth of your smile
I can see that you are anxious for the child inside
I can see you’ve been turned away by many before
But there is room at this inn for you
When I see the desperation in the hunger of your smile
And the way you cling so lovingly to the child
I can see that you’ll be turned away by many, many more
But there’s always room at this inn for you
There is room in this England for you.
We Are All One
Colours come to confuse me as they play with light
And the beauty of the fallen leaves
Scatters as the day retreats to night
There will be a time for all when our skins seem grey
When she and he will merge and when
We’ll all be free with the way we speak
The way we dress and spend our time to do our level best
We, we are all one
One with love on this Earth
We, we are all one
With the sun and universe
I heard a song devotional come in on the breeze
I’ll sing that sacred melody
Its secrets shared in harmony, rhythms danced in time,
Calling all who hear the words to join the line
There are demons I fight inside
And ones that I choose to hide
But I’m pushing against that tide
My lifetime may never see
All that I want to achieve
But I really believe

The Jolly Hangman
I ride the Lane to the Gallow’s Tree
In the green of a death cap top
The oak set apart from the beeches
Marks the place where I must stop
To meet with the hangman dressed in black
And the watchers gathered all
To witness poor young Jacky Sprat
Swing for the sheep he stole.
Through Ipsden Wood the Ride runs straight
All along by the withy copse
My jade never knows that it’s wrong to be late
As she stoops to the grass and crops
So I choose my time that I see to arrive
And I choose the enjoy the ride
It’s the Spring of 1825
I ride as a judge with pride.
I love to meet with the Jolly Hangman
A man of distinction who’s even happier than me.
As my horse champs the grass by the young stag’s horn
I reflect on my life’s work thus far
The stump of the oak’s now long been removed
Since the sad reform of the law
But I still ride the Lane to the Gallow’s Tree
To cradle that beautiful noose
And I startle the riders and ramblers
With my smile I’ll never lose.
